This was our 3rd endurance race and our first at Pembrey. After the problems at the previous rounds we were hoping all would go well
. For this race we were back to the usual rider line up, however Mike Oldknow's hand was still sore form the Bishopscourt crash, it was unclear if he would be able to ride for a full 1 hour session.

As always with Pembrey it was very wet. The Saturday was a KRC test day and qualifying with the race on Sunday. The Saturday afternoon dried up for qualifying. We qualified 32, but as usual this was on very warn tyres, so we knew we could go faster.

Another Sunny Day at Pembrey!

The race on Sunday started at 10 am, with Shaun going out first. The track was still damp with puddles in places, so care had to be taken for the first few laps. But after about 20 minutes a dry line had formed and Shaun was constantly lapping within 1 second of the qualifying time. The next out was Shelley, she took control of the bike about 65 minutes into the race. She was also lapping close to her qualifying time. 3/4 of the way through her session the pace car came out and a few minutes later the heavens open! Because we only had one set of wets we left Shelley out as long as possible, to make sure the tyres did not get ruined. We pitted shortly after the pace car pulled in, this was mistake, we should have pitted under the pace car, but we are learning! The stop went well, and Mike was shortly on the bike and out for his first session. After 30 minutes he unexpectedly pitted. The cold and wet was causing him pain in his hand, so Shaun had to go out. This session went smoothly, as did Shelley's next session. Mike was sure, after using a pain killer, he would be OK for his next session, but after 20 minutes he was back in the pits. Shaun was not in the pit lane, and no one knew where he was, so Shelley had to go out again, but only after a 10 minute wait (the rules state each rider must have a 30 minute rest between sessions). Shelley had been riding for about 30 minutes, when with 20 minutes of the race still remaining the rain came down so heavily that the pit crew could hardly see the track, clearly it was to dangerous to race so the KRC officials put out the red flag and ended the race. I think all the riders and crews were very glad to see an end to the race, most headed straight top the bar for a coffee or something stronger!
Overall we are very disappointed with this result. However we have learned some important lessons, namely; pit under the pace car whenever possible, do not try to ride unless you are 100% fit and a race is not the place to first ride on full wets.
The Coyote riders would like to thank all out pit crew for anther excellent job, in appalling conditions. The whole team has learn a huge amount about endurance racing, we are looking forward to next season and some better finishes.

This was our second endurance race and first 8 hour event. After the problems at Bishopscourt the aim was just to finish, if we did well it would be a bonus. Mike Oldknow's hand was still not up to racing, after the crash at Bishopscourt, so Mike Eglington was drafted in for the race. Although Mike had not raced for a few years he is a very experienced endurance racer, having won the South African Nation Endurance championship several times. Mike's experience and knowledge of endurance racing was very useful to us.

Qualifying 33rd
Out of 48. Speed in qualifying was kept down because we had to scrub new tyres in over the first few laps of the race. Therefore we did not want too be near the front.
1 Hour 30th
Ran out of fuel on "IN" lap and had to push the bike back from the far side of the track, loosing about 15 places.
2 Hours 32nd
3 Hours 28th
4 Hours 25th
5 Hours 24th
6 Hours 22nd
7 Hours 29nd
Just after the 6th hour the fuel pump became intermittent, causing several stops on the track and pit stops to try to fix it.
8 Hours 33rd
By about 7 1/2 hours the pump completely stopped. We disconnected it so the bike could go out just before the end of the race and be limped round to "take the flag."

The race started well. Shaun took the first stint working his way up the field and into the top 15. But on his "IN" lap the bike seemed to run out of fuel, on the far side of the track (problems like this never seem to happen just in front of the pit lane!). The bike was quickly recovered and refuelled, but 2-3 laps were lost.
The next few hours went well and without incident. All the riders put in consistent lap times moving the team steadily up the field. Then after 6 hours Shaun went out for his third and final stint. After six laps the bike started to play up. It was cutting out, then after about 2-3 minutes would fire up again, only to do the same thing again a lap or two later. The bike was brought into the pits several times. All the ignition system was checked over and connectors cleaned, but to no avail. The cause was finally isolated to the fuel pump. But we did not have a spare and with only 30 minutes of the race left it was decided to remove the pump and connect the carbs directly to the tank. This allowed us to limp round for one lap at the end of the race. That way we could at least "take the chequered flag." This was done with Mike on board and the bike coughing and spluttering.
Most of the pit crew were new for this race, but they performed extremely well, and the rider's thanks go out to them. Despite the problems the whole team enjoyed the race and look forward to Pembrey.

The qualifying and the race started off well. The first pit stop after 1 hour 5 minutes was a bit slow, mainly because we were having a problem with the fueler taking too long. Mike went out for the second session and was going well until the last corner of his "IN" lap. Another rider lost control and took Mike out with him. Mike ended up going to hospital, because he broke his hand and had concussion. The bike ended up on the outside to the track. So Shaun and Shelley had to wait about 1 hour until the pace car came out again, which allowed them to recover the bike. The bike did not have too much damage. So after patching it up and borrowing a clip on, Shelley went out for the last 50 minutes of the race.
